Terms of Service

Agreement

theessaygrader.com is run by an individual developer ("I", "me"). By using the service, you agree to these Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the service. If I learn that a child under 13 has created an account, I will delete it and its data. The service does not ask for a full birth date.

If you are 13 to 17, you may use the service only with your parent's or guardian's permission. You confirm this with a checkbox when you register and again before each review. A parent or guardian can contact me to review or delete their teen's data. If you are not legally able to accept these terms yourself, your parent or guardian must review and accept them for you.

The age checkbox is a service eligibility control, not a claim that every legal requirement has been satisfied.

What the service does

College Essay Grader provides scores under its own disclosed rubric, evidence from your draft, feedback, revision directions, and questions for you to answer. It does not write or rewrite essays, supply replacement passages, predict admission, or guarantee a particular outcome.

A score is not an admissions decision. Different colleges and application readers may evaluate writing differently.

Writing style and over-editing notices

Style notices may identify text that reads as generic, abrupt in register, or possibly over-polished. An over-editing notice is a prompt for reflection, not proof that another person or an AI system changed your work. The service does not provide an AI probability, an overall AI-detection score, or instructions for evading detection.

You may ignore any suggestion. You remain responsible for deciding what, if anything, to change.

Your writing and acceptable use

You retain ownership of your essay. You give me only the limited permission needed to process the submitted draft and return feedback, including sending it to third-party AI service providers as the Privacy Policy describes. My own systems do not use your essay to train AI models.

You agree to:

• submit only your own work or material you are authorized to use;
• review the redacted preview and remove identifying or sensitive information you do not want processed;
• follow the application and academic-integrity rules of each college; and
• avoid unlawful, infringing, abusive, or disruptive use of the service.

Do not represent substantive AI-generated content as your own original work. See the Common App Fraud Policy and each college's own rules. The service's feedback-only design does not guarantee that every use complies with every college policy.

Free reviews

The free tier is a limited number of full reviews without an account, more when you verify an email, and then a smaller quick review each day. Current limits are shown on the home page and may change. Limits are counted per device, network and email address, so using another browser or address does not always give more reviews, and a shared network or device can reach a limit sooner. A review that fails does not use a free review, and neither does resubmitting identical text within 24 hours. Using several accounts or automated tools to get around these limits is not allowed.

Students with a Common App, SAT or ACT fee waiver can ask for a free application season pass by email, as described on the fee waiver page. Requests are reviewed by a person, and a pass granted for a request that is not true may be withdrawn.

Purchases and refunds

Paid plans are one-time purchases at the prices shown on the pricing page before you pay. Nothing renews automatically, and there is no subscription to cancel. The season pass lasts until the date shown on the pricing page, with the daily fair-use limit shown there. Payments are processed by Waffo, my payment partner and merchant of record, which charges your card, issues the receipt and handles any tax.

A review that fails does not use a review from your plan. A purchase you have not used can be refunded in full if you ask within 7 days of buying it, by writing to hello@theessaygrader.com. A purchase that has been used, even in part, is not refundable; if a review did not work as described, write to me and I will restore that review. Refunds go back to the original payment method through Waffo, and how long they take depends on your bank. A refund removes the purchase from your account, including any season pass and the reviews it granted. Nothing here limits rights you have under applicable law.

Consent and AI processing

Before each review, you must confirm your age as described under Eligibility, accept the Privacy Policy and these terms, review the current redacted draft, and agree that your essay text is sent to third-party AI service providers to generate feedback. These providers may process and store data outside the United States. Consent checkboxes start unchecked and are separate from marketing choices.

Accounts and availability

You are responsible for your account session and for activity under your account. Anonymous use does not create a permanent essay history. Signed-in essays are saved only when you explicitly choose to save them.

Features, rubrics, providers, quotas, and availability may change, and uninterrupted access is not promised.

Suspension and termination

I may stop processing or suspend access to protect users, investigate abuse, enforce the age restriction, or respond to legal or security risks. You may stop using the service and request deletion through your account or by emailing me.

Disclaimers and liability

The service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis to the extent permitted by law. I do not warrant that feedback is error-free, that every identifier will be detected, or that scores will remain identical across uncached providers or model versions.

To the extent permitted by law, I am not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from use of the service. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.

Changes and contact
